ENT Programs at OhioHealth

The ear, nose and throat (ENT) experts at OhioHealth provide the specialized care you need.

Our programs help people with disorders ranging from common to rare.

Voice and Swallow Clinic at Doctors Hospital

Most people have voice problems at some time. You may have hoarseness, a decreased vocal range or lose your voice altogether. These problems can result from something as simple as a cold or overusing your voice by cheering or singing loudly. They can also come from polyps or nodules on the vocal cords, vocal cord paralysis and other conditions.

Swallowing disorders, also called dysphasia, are less common but can lead to serious problems. Symptoms include coughing or feeling a choking sensation during or right after you eat or drink. You may also have recurring bouts with chest congestion or pneumonia from food entering your airway. In some cases, people with swallowing disorders lose weight or become dehydrated from not being able to eat enough.

At OhioHealth’s Voice and Swallow Clinic, we evaluate and treat a wide range of voice and swallow conditions, including uncommon disorders that are difficult to diagnose. We use the latest technologies such as:

  • Videostroboscopy testing — State-of-the-art diagnostic testing that provides a magnified, slow-motion view of the vocal cords in action.
  • FEES (Fiber-optic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) — A test that detects aspiration (inhaling food or other substance into the airway) and determines the safest and least restrictive diet for patients with swallowing disorders.

Audiology

People of all ages can have hearing loss. It can occur from injury or disease, and some babies are born with hearing problems. Some types of hearing loss occur so gradually that you don’t notice a problem until you have trouble understanding conversation or need to turn the TV up louder and louder.

At OhioHealth, audiologists work in physicians’ offices to diagnose and treat hearing and other ear problems in children and adults. We provide services such as:

  • Hearing tests
  • Infant and hearing screening
  • Surgery for cochlear implants
  • Hearing aid evaluation
  • Implantable hearing aids
  • Treatment for tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • Balance disorders

At OhioHealth, we understand that hearing and balance problems can interfere with your quality of life. We are committed to helping you achieve the best recovery and function possible.

ENT Surgery

Some conditions of the ear, nose or throat require surgery. Our experienced ENT surgeons use advanced technology to perform safer, faster and more effective procedures. For example, computer-guided surgery gives surgeons clear views of complicated anatomical structures, such as sinuses. Advanced laser instrumentation gives surgeons extremely accurate tools for removing tumors. And the StealthStation surgical navigation system provides high-resolution, three-dimensional images of the patient’s anatomy that enables precise, less invasive surgeries.
