What You Can Expect at Our Clinic
Diagnosis
OhioHealth movement disorders specialists have extensive experience with the diagnosis and management of Parkinson disease, tremors, dystonia, chorea and other disorders. Our specialists can help your primary care physician, and your neurologist, to provide or confirm a diagnosis and to develop or fine-tune a treatment plan.
Diagnosis involves:
- One-on-one consultation with a board-certified, fellowship-trained movement disorders specialist
- Health history and neurological examination
- Discussion of diagnosis and treatment options
Personalized Treatment Plan
Our Clinic employs an interdisciplinary approach to develop a diagnosis-based, individualized plan of care that is designed to treat symptoms and improve quality of life. Our clinical team consists of movement disorders specialist neurologists, nurse practitioners, and nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and social workers, all of whom are experienced with the specific needs of the movement disorders patient.
Treatment involves:
- Discussion with neurologist about available, diagnosis-based medical and/or surgical approaches to your care, implementation of an individualized plan of treatment, and follow-up to be sure that the plan is effective.
- Opportunity for same-day assessment by a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, and/or a speech therapist, followed by referral for the development of an individualized plan of therapy.
- Opportunity for discussion about, and referral to, neuroscience-focused exercise/wellness programs.
Movement Disorders Surgery
For patients with Parkinson disease, essential tremor or dystonia, deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery may be an option. For patients with Parkinson disease tremor or essential tremor, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU or FUS) may be an option.
